Have you been kind to yourself?
Before the time ran out on you playing the martyr or uncaring…
Did you ever say no to concealed wickedness, or store them painfully in a memory shell?
Wisdom, did it occur to you, to do it with daring?
Have you been kind to yourself?
And thought, what would you give selflessly?
To the deserving and the one in need?
Love, help, a patient ear, did that thought germinate from this seed?
With all that you have, did your void let you wander aimlessly?
Have you ever been kind to yourself?
To choose a wise company that does not tread you,
On the path regrettable like a bolt from the blue,
Abstain from over indulgence, like a magic from the sweet fairy,
Did your egotistical mind, feel less airy?
Have you been kind to yourself?
To let in what boosts your morale and emotions,
Like a magical fountain with happiness potions.
To ignore the noxious like a scrap on the street,
To well meaning people and thoughts did you meet?
Have you been kind to yourself?
To empathize with your reasonable needs,
Even when your mind dragged you to accepting awful deeds?
To choose balance over excess,
Choose moderate when choices were surplus?
Have you been kind to yourself?
And given others a piece of your heart,
To be in their shoes, did you spring up this art?
Put a smile on those you meet everyday,
Keeping your troubles aside if you may…
Have you been kind to yourself?
Traveled within your mind subconscious,
Did you halt on a station that felt nauseous?
Of the unkind views, did you ever gush them out?
Or did they stay like an uninvited guest, stubborn and stout?
Have you been kind to yourself?
Shared joy, beauty, ideas that make your inner core?
Did you sail through the stormy waves and land on the seashore?
And still have love in your heart that shines,
Like a diamond in the coal mines.
Have you been kind to yourself?
And knew who to give your heart and soul?
For only the precious that cares truly,
Can sing with you and dole,
Even during the times unruly.
Have you ever been kind to yourself?
To make poison walk miles away,
Like a never ending hike,
On any given day,
Painting your inner wall to the pure color white.
Have you ever been kind to yourself?
And not let your loved ones take advantage undue?
A knotty resolve to do them good and you,
Your unkindness are the tales told?
Gliding you on guilty-trips no matter how many years you are old?
Have you been kind to yourself?
To let the noise slide away in oblivion,
When lies and deceit layered like an onion,
What’s good for your life amidst the disorder,
Did you slice and spice it up to create a delicious platter?
Adding condiments from the pantry of the savvy,
Finding the missing piece for the puzzle, you feel less heavy?
Have you been kind to yourself?
Sans the pitter-patter of unthinking,
Sang lulluby to impulse blinking,
Every now and then coaxing actions unkind.
Each day, do you rewind, before you unwind?
Have you been kind to yourself?
